using growth rates disingenuously. If administrative staff grew from like 5 to 20 that's a 400% increase, but it's not a lot of additional people.

Yeah, there’s actually a good reason for it: when we were kids, they were lots of teachers and a small support staff. But now there are paraprofessionals and therapists (speech, occupational, etc) and instructional design teams and content coaches…

Percentage changes without absolute numbers does not tell you much. E.g., a change from 1 to 2 is a 100% change. If you want to understand what's happening here, you will need the numbers.

People want money to not do much work, and leveraging high social trust institutions like schools, hospitals etc to do it is safe, cheap, and easy.

It's perfectly rational, it's just not what you want if you're a parent or a taxpayer or care about education

the reason for the administrative overhead is the government putting requirements on schools for reporting and other structures in exchange for federal funds.
